How to moisturize the skin

How to moisturize the skin

Is it even necessary to moisturise my skin? How do I know if my skin needs moisturizing? Isn't frequent washing enough? How often should I moisturize my skin? Can I over-moisturize? We'll answer these common questions in this article.

Do I need to moisturize my skin?
Our entire body is made up of half water. A healthy body regulates its intake and output. A young and healthy person with healthy skin and sufficient fluid intake does not need to hydrate their skin. However, our skin is daily exposed to various chemicals of artificial and natural origin, temperature fluctuations, sunlight, abrasion, etc. Moreover, as we age, our skin's regenerative and moisturising abilities decrease. So yes, it is good to moisturize your skin from a certain age.
How do I know if my skin needs moisturizing?
As the above shows, the closer we get to thirty, the more we will need to start addressing the issue of regular skin hydration. However, if you suffer from eczema, psoriasis, itchy skin, kidney disease, liver disease or diabetes, it's a good idea to start moisturising at a younger age. Skin with poor hydration may not be dry at first glance. But as it loses elasticity it feels looser, develops micro-wrinkles, flakes, is greyish and can become sensitive. There is a simple test: grasp the skin on the back of your hand with two fingers and lift it. Let go. If the skin comes back within a second or two, it is not dehydrated. But if you can see where you lifted it, it definitely needs hydration.
Isn't frequent soaking and washing enough?
Unless you wash only with lukewarm, natural, untreated water and use only ambient air to dry, it is almost certain that frequent washing is more likely to damage the skin
How often should I moisturise my skin?
The frequency and method of moisturizing your skin depends on your age. The minimum is to use a moisturizing body lotion at least once a day after showering. Use oils in the summer and greasier creams in the winter. They form a film that retains water in the skin. You can also use Dermaguard barrier cream, which hydrates, retains water in the skin and protects it from free radicals and irritants from the environment.
Can you go overboard with moisturizing?
Skin will only take in as much water as it needs. It doesn't make sense to moisturize your skin multiple times a day. On the contrary. Cosmetic products contain many chemicals. Frequent application can easily lead to hypersensitivity to some of them.
